The Chrysalis Reader was first published by the Swedenborg Foundation in 1985 as a journal called Chrysalis. Subscribers received three issues per year. In 1994, Chrysalis evolved into an annual book series entitled the Chrysalis Reader, which can be purchased in bookstores and at this website.

The Swedenborg Foundation publishes the works and translations (from Latin) of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772)—scientist, inventor, and mystic—who used his rational and scientific orientation to explore the world of spirit.

The Chrysalis Reader is a contemporary journal of spiritual discovery published in honor of Swedenborg. Each issue focuses on a meaningful theme that inspires current writings and artwork that address today's questions on spirituality. Essays, fiction, poetry, and artwork give fresh and diverse perspectives from many traditions, personal experiences, and fields of study. As Swedenborg says, the essence of a thing cannot come into being unless it unites with a means that can express it.

The Chrysalis Reader is published annually in the fall. In addition to selling current and back issues, the Swedenborg Foundation accepts pre-orders and standing orders (mailed to customers automatically each year with an invoice). To become a standing-order customer, contact Swedenborg Foundation, 320 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380; call 800.355.3222 ext. 10; or e-mail customerservice@swedenborg.com.
