Stay by Me, Roses book review from Library Bookwatch
"The desire to create never truly dies. Stay by Me, Roses: The Life of American Artist Alice Archer Sewall James, 1870-1955 chronicles the story of "Grandma Moses of the Midwest," a woman who while abandoning her dreams of being an artist early in life to be a housewife, later refound her calling. Alice Blackmer Skinner, a research psychologist, tells her story well with attention to history and detail. Stay by Me, Roses is a fine artistic biography, very much recommended read."

The Hidden Levels of the Mind Reviewed by Publishers Weekly

The Hidden Levels of the Mind: Swedenborg's Theory of Consciousness

Douglas Taylor

Swedenborg Foundation, $12.95 trade paper (128p) ISBN 978-0-87785-340-4

"Those confounded by the writings of 18th-century theologian Emanuel Swedenborg will find an able guide in Taylor (Spirituality That Makes Sense). In this slim volume, the author explains the many facets of what could be called Swedenborg’s philosophy of mind. With remarkable clarity, Taylor presents the Swedish mystic’s conception of body, mind, and soul, which were believed to exist on a spectrum of awareness beginning with sensory information and culminating in unconditional love of the Lord. The goal is regeneration, a process of raising consciousness to “allow the influence of the Lord to enter us and transform our being.” Just as Swedenborg blended Enlightenment rationality with unshakable faith, Taylor fits an esoteric belief system into a concise mapping of spiritual evolution. Readers expecting tales of Swedenborg’s heavenly travels may want to look elsewhere; Taylor sticks to his subject without getting sidetracked, and it is interesting enough without delving into the afterlife or angels. In neatly relating how Swedenborg believed a spiritual life should be lived, Taylor affirms the scientist-mystic’s continued relevance."--Publishers Weekly

Tiffany's Swedenborgian Angels reviewed by Light of Consciousness
TIFFANY'S SWEDENBORGIAN ANGELS,
Stained Glass Windows Representing the
Seven Churches from the Book of Revelation
by Mary Lou Bertucci and Joanna Hill;
Paperback, 96 pp, 6.5x11, $19.95; Swedenborg
Foundation Press 2011, www.Swedenborg.com.

Seven exquisite stained glass windows are presented in full color in this oversize paperback. Each angel bears the name of one of the seven ancient cities of Asia Minor: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, etc. Geographical and historical background is provided for each city. Every angel also presents a message, conveyed by an inscription and by symbolic details of the art. The angelic wisdom or deeper spiritual meaning of each message is explained. The text, enhanced by over seventy small color illustrations, is based on the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg and focuses in particular on St. John's letters to the churches in each of the ancient cities.

These windows were originally created in the late 1800s by Louis Tiffany for a Swedenborgian church in Cincinnati. When the church was destroyed to make way for a highway, the windows were crated and put in storage. It was not until 2001 that they were rediscovered and painstakingly restored, bringing the luminous angels and their messages back to life. Details of the restoration are described. In order that many people can see them, the windows are presently  part of a traveling exhibition; for information please see www.incompanywithangels.org.

New Title: The Hidden Levels of the Mind
"This is a thought-provoking book for the serious student of Emanuel Swedenborg's ideas on the complex and challenging topic of human consciousness. Consciousness is something that everyone experiences, yet it is a phenomenon that eludes objective scientific investigation--because we experience consciousness subjectively.  In spite of this, Swedenborg developed a comprehensive model of consciousness that was broad enough to include both a universal multi-level design of the inner organization of humankind and our person-level experience. Douglas Taylor's book underscores Swedenborg's unique view that there can be no real understanding of human consciousness, or its potentials, without bringing God's ultimate design for our spiritual growth and salvation into the equation."
---Edward F. Sylvia, MTS, award-winning author of Proving God--Swedenborg's Remarkable Quest for the Quantum Fingerprints of Love

"A clear exposition of Swedenborg's understanding of the mind which will prompt readers to reassess more limited modern understandings, especially with respect to the relationship between the supraconscious and subconscious aspects.
"
---David Lorimer, Vice-President, Swedenborg Society, London

Ray Silverman's BEA author signing a success!

"It was an awe-inspiring experience to be able to "stand-in" for Helen Keller at Table 9. While I did not exactly "channel" Helen, I did have a profound sense of how beloved she is, and how her life and teachings have positively impacted the world.

The many people who came through the autograph line seemed to carry with them Helen's same energy for love and service. Each was dedicated to helping the world in a unique and wonderful way; each was dedicated to "channeling Helen" by sharing her inspiring message with others; and each person blessed me by their loving presence. For a brief moment I felt like I was at an old time country fair "kissing booth," except that this felt much more like a blessing booth! I will long cherish this blessed experience, and I thank the Swedenborg Foundation and BEA for making it possible. May Helen's noble legacy live on."
